The recent SSA Fall Conference and Trade Show was another event well done as evidenced by the record-setting attendance.  My team and I enjoy attending these events not only because of the engaging educational sessions but because they allow an opportunity to network with our peers and friends from all of the country.

There are a few essentials to doing business in the modern economy and credit card processing is one of them. Portfolios of all sizes should review this expense regularly.

We all know the importance of visibility. That’s why we strive to build facilities on highly trafficked streets and highways. Visible signage, beautiful buildings, and inviting offices are best practices when it comes to creating curb appeal and improving your location visibility.

Now that Christmas is behind us and the year has almost come to an end, it seems appropriate to highlight why charity should be an essential part of a company’s culture. Charity hasn’t always been central to our corporate identity at SPMI, but our team has upped the giving anty every year since we started.

As we enter the Thanksgiving season, I find myself reflecting on everything I have to be thankful for, and something struck me this year differently than in previous years. This has been another great year, but it has not been without hardships to overcome.

During the course of my life, I’ve had many mentors and most of them didn’t even know it. They were businessmen and women whose leadership style struck a chord with me. Inspirational figures who achieved in the areas where I wanted to find success. Over time, some of them became close friends. All of them helped me greatly.

During the course of my career, I have lived through a number of real estate cycles. I have seen the highs and lows from a number of different, unique perspectives: broker, developer, small portfolio manager and large portfolio owner just to name a few.

When I walked into the fall Self Storage Association (SSA) trade show in Las Vegas in 1996, I wasn’t an owner yet. I was a broker with an interest in self storage. The atmosphere was electric.
